What can I say? Sushi 35 West did it again. They delivered again on quality sushi at a somewhat affordable rate. I ordered and picked up on a very busy Friday early evening and my order was prepared in under fifteen minutes. They are operating at a very high capacity in that cramped kitchen. Again, the small details count here and I will lead with the condiments. They do not short you on quality soy sauce, ginger and wasabi. Given the volume of business, I doubt if they are grinding their own wasabi, but it is of very high quality here. The soy sauce is also high quality and it is evident a little goes a long way. The soy sauce leads with the savory, but not the salt. The wasabi dissolves easily in the soy and its sharpness has a muted quality to allow you full appreciation for its flavor. The ginger is also not overlooked and they are generous with the ginger. All of these qualities regarding the condiments make for an enjoyable experience I never find elsewhere and it is a sign of details not overlooked. This is one reason why Sushi 35 West is doing brisk business. All the delivery services are showing up in numbers. Regulars are there and it's all about the quality sushi, for people are sitting and eating without a care for the walkup over a smoke shop warehouse type atmosphere. It's on the tourists maps too. I saw folks all the way from South Africa. Repeating my previous review, the higher level sushi, nigiri and sashimi offerings are where you seriously need to give your attention. I have ordered the very large omakase chef's choice 35 piece nigiri and this time went with the 15 piece nigiri box. This is a good way to understand the different grades of tuna, namely the fatty otoro and mid grade chutoro. The lower grade akami is not in this box. The chutoro is so tender and then the otoro melts in your mouth. Here, even the salmon is buttery tender. Then you try their hotate scallop nigiri when in season and try to recall anything so tender and melt in your mouth. Then in contrast, take in the flavor of the sawara mackerel. It hits my palate on the level of steak for savory and offers a contrast in texture; though, still very tender. You'll always remember that taste and the experience from this 15 piece box. The Toro Toro roll is a requirement in my book. At $21, it's not cheap, but neither is the experience. The fatty tuna is worth the price of admission. It seems they must be using the otoro grade here. The thick rolled FutoMaki at $18 is the bargain and it is as advertised, very satisfying. For those who like a Dragon Roll found in a lot of places, this will give you the eel, cucumber and avocado you crave with the Tamago egg. There are no sesame seeds for contrast, but you will enjoy the FutoMaki and these premium rolls will not leave you wanting. If you want a premium roll with uni, try the admittedly pricey Toro Uni SutoMaki. Here you get the premium otoro fatty tuna, but with a dollop of uni or sea urchin on each of the six slices of the fat roll. I do not know what a SutoMaki roll is, for it seems the same as a FutoMaki thick roll in nori seaweed. At $38, this SutoMaki uni roll is a once in a while splurge for those who like that creamy and somewhat briny sea urchin. The high demand drives the price for urchin and any sushi featuring uni will reflect that high demand and price. So this is one premium FutoMaki type roll you could skip and double up on the Toro Toro or regular FutoMaki. By the way, it's worth mentioning that FutoMaki means a fat roll and all of these three premium rolls qualify as FutoMaki, but at Sushi 35 West, only one of these premium rolls carries that name. One more item I like on the side is the Ikura, sushi or sashimi, depending on whether you want the roe with the vinegar rice or without. It's a toss up for me, but the bursting flavor sensation is greater with the sashimi in my opinion. This time I opted for the sushi and it's still a great and somewhat explosive experience, worthy of capping off another great experience at Sushi 35 West. I would recommend Sushi 35 West making a temaki version of Ikura. Temaki is the seaweed wrapped maki in an ice cream cone shape that would really augment the Ikura experience. There is no question this is first rate sushi and everyone wants this Michelin star level sushi at a great price. Sushi 35 West delivers on this and one must be prepared to pay for this level of quality. Given the quality, I encourage you to try their premium offerings which will allow you to taste and experience the Michelin star level the regular items may not deliver. Sushi 35 West provides the unique opportunity to experience sushi on a very high level without emptying your wallet and account. If you spend $200 here, that could be triple or more elsewhere in a hurry. Sushi 35 West is consistently a four and a half star experience and you will enjoy every mouthful as if it were composed for your palate and your culinary enjoyment.

Quite hidden sushi in NYC. Such a jank looking entrance and shop but just wonderful food! I just finished eating it and am looking forward to coming back. The flavor of everything was just great, from the rice/fish to the soy sauce and even the wasabi. My favorite salmon & salmon roe donburi in nyc

Fresh, high quality sushi! I especially liked the negitoro roll in the premium sushi set. You could really taste the seasoning. Even the soy sauce seemed a little different in a good way. Also liked the rice, but felt like there was a bit too much for each piece of negiri. Would order again

Under the radar fantastic sushi . Seriously, there is no reason why there are few NYC sushi places with one Michelin star and this one is not one of them . Well..... yeh , only 3 spartan tables , located on a narrow hiding second floor and no alcohol .... BUT ! The sushi and the service are phenomenal!!! Seems that their business based on delivery and even though I am not a sushi delivery fan , I completely recommend to order. Everything was fresh and flavorable and fairly priced. Highly recommended!!!! Definitely a destination!!!!

I came here on a Friday night at about 7pm. (It also happened to be during lent, so I think it was even busier in the kitchen than usual) They have three tables with two chairs. Very casual. It seems to be more of a takeout spot My friend and I split the Sushi & Sashimi Premium- 15pc of Sashimi & 10pc Sushi - $60.00 It came out in like 10 minutes of ordering. The sushi was very fresh and had great taste. It was not enough for two people and we should've ordered more, but that's personal preference.

After finding out about the hidden sushi gem in NYC, I knew I had to try. Finally, I got around to trying it. Location: The place is known to the locals who either work or live around here. But to the rest of the world, it's actually quite hidden and I would have honestly never figured out if not for social media. You really can't tell from outside. At first, it might be hard to find because it's on the 2nd floor of what seems like a smoke shop. As you enter, you will see stairs to the right. When you walk upstairs, you will see a window to order. Inside, you see multiple sushi chefs inside prepping the food. Ordering: You can either order online on their website or order in person. I opted for online so that my food was ready when I arrived and it was. The waiting space inside is not very big. Seating: The seating really only consists of 2-3 very small tables in a hallway type area. Definitely not meant for large groups. The area where the tables are is also the waiting area, so to be honest, it's not really a formal dining area at all. This shop is mainly set up for take-out orders. If it's a nice day outside, I suggest you go take it out to Bryant park or something. I personally got the sushi regular lunch special to-go - which consisted of a few pieces of sushi and a roll. One sushi platter like this won't make you full, but it's just enough to keep you satisfied. The price is super fair! The sushi is really fresh. It is suggested to eat right away because it is primarily raw and it's best eaten that way. I took my meal to Bryant park and sat in the sun, which was the best option.

Was recommended this place as I was craving sushi. It's a hidden place above what I believe is a smoke shop and there was very limited seating. Luckily I was just getting it to-go, and the service was relatively quick. The atmosphere that I saw lowered my expectations but the sushi itself was amazing! Probably one of the best sushi meals that I've had. I really liked the negi toro roll that came with mine and the nigiri that came with it was really good as well. Would definitely come back if I got the chance.

This little sushi spot is hidden! It's upstairs, on top of a smoke shop! You can order online to go or you can eat there. There's like 3 little tables upstairs. Workers are nice and food comes out quickly The salmon avocado roll was good! Good quickly salmon and everything tasted fresh! The sushi rice had good flavor, and texture, wish the rice was a little colder $12 for this roll which is avg price. But they have cheaper prices during lunch hours. Food was good, I def would go back for lunch prices!
